Diblan-The Mother of all Meetings.
Pure Fiction – Part two......…Continued from Part One…

…Abba Gideer always speaks his mind with wisdom and conciliatory tone. He has an elderly status in the community and everyone in the community is expected to respect him and listen to his advice. He gave his piece eloquently and rested his case. No supplement or objection, but allowed ample time for everyone to gather their thoughts for the next round of discussion.
…..…End Part One ……

Diblan-The Mother of all Meetings.
Pure Fiction – Part two

You, our leaders, “Is the testimony given by Abba Gideer familiar to anyone of you here” said the second speaker.  “I bet it is”  “Irrespective of the organization you belong to, I am confident that you did your utmost towards the betterment of your community”. Then, the million dollar question that begs for an answer is, the hostility and the negative perception of others towards you.” said with a soothing voice. “Always remember” he concluded; “despite all this, you are our leaders and we are your followers; you either unite us or we remain weak and divided forever”.

A loud and angry voice came from nowhere in the crowd.
“These people, you fellows are referring to, have mismanaged our funds badly, they also abused their power, and…”
“Here we go again, a cheap way of character assassination” murmured one lady.
“Point of Order” said another.
Sam bal akhakh” shot back the fellow furiously.
Sam elumekh!” responded the man, and continued “Yee usuachuw nikhashayumena, mahalaqzinaw zibalachintyou.”. “ Egnach alay  usu yatmalahlana…”

After a few more inflammatory exchanges of accusations and mud slinging back and forth, the entire hall caught on fire and sank into chaos. The Chairman attempted to maintain the order, but to no avail. Sadly, the Mother of all Meetings for Harari Unity disrupted uncontrollably and ended with an intended long-suffering outcome.

“Time and again, I was told, so called Community Leaders and would be ones engage in such unsubstantiated accusations and misdemeanor, leading to an ugly confrontation. Sadly enough, I have also witnessed quite often when leaders subconsciously engaging in an attempt to change the culture (Talas) of an organization they join or the organization’s expectation of new members to be complacent to it’s already established Culture (Talas). Yet again, I realized that we all failed to understand what an organizational culture means and the complexity it entails and how it evolved into being what it is.

The phenomenon of an organizational culture (Talas) is simply more evident in the circles of Jammas that are characterized by its members being so close to each other in many of their attributes; the way they communicate and their method of resolving conflicts. Therefore, it is fair to say that an act of joining a specific group is not merely an accidental one but rather a cultural (Talas) resemblance to the organization’s cultural norms.

Einstein once said” The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them” Since we can not use the same recipe all the time and expect a different taste, we need to redefine our current organizational status and needs and devise a new model.

Our current leaders have relentlessly pursued to achieve the so called “Harari Unity” with every skill and experience they gained over the decades. However, to everyone’s disappointment, all their attempted effort hit a dead end. In a nation that has evolved into being so diverse in its organizational needs and culture, the traditionally prescribed “UNITY” model must completely be dropped and modified into a new model; a model that can accommodate our existing diverse organizational needs and one that is capable of satisfying our collective Harari national interests.

Changing leadership is a quick fix method to an immediate problem, but not a solution to a deeply rooted systemic and diverse cultural collides between organizations. Therefore, the problem at hand can not be solved with our traditionally prescribed band aid remedies and at our current level of thinking.

More than ever, our Harari Nation is challenged in its social, economic and political development, more so, on the uncertainty of its very survival. To confront this dilemma, we need to call upon, and voice our concern to our respective leaders to seriously think and devise a new model for uniting our nation in an Alliance. An Alliance that fully recognizes the liberty of each Harari community organizations, Afochas, Jammas  or interest groups, with due respect to their leadership, constitutions, mandates and contributions.
We at Khairiwer, are launching an initiative for a Harari Alliance and invite all Harari Communities, Afochas, Jammas or interest groups to join us, as well as discuss and evaluate its merits.

The working mechanism and structure of the initiative is something that would be developed with the blessing, support and proactive participation of all Hararis of the Alliance voluntarily in a collaborative fashion.
