Who would your Hero/Heroine or Role model be ?

who is your hero? Among the living, with the exception of your mother and father, if you were asked to pick a HERO in our society who would that HERO be? and why? If a name doesn't’t pop up in your mind within seconds, then, you must ask yourself why?

Give it a second thought. Have a bit of a thought process and try to come up with one who would qualify to your criteria of a hero. If you fall short to name one again, then you must rethink seriously why you couldn't.

We wonder how many heroes could we collectively come up with, and, under which criteria we measure them against. We believe this will give a sense of our Harari society’s expectation. Please feel free to share your thoughts.

Who: My mother ( Saada Ahmed Abubaker )
Why: My mom is my hero - because all my life,
she has sacrficed everything she had for me and my brother.
Coming to a country with nothing and giving us all
she had. I can talk to my mom about anything, and we
don't keep secrets, she's not judgemental and she
listens to all my problems. She raised two well
educated children in a world that's not always right.
She's always putting us first and always wants what's best
for us. She has been an inspiration to me, to be good and to
do good. I will forever love my mother and she is my hero because without her I would not be here on this earth. if I can be half the mother she is to me, then I know my children will be in good hands. :O) I love you mom!

Who: Biraq

Why: How can I put this? Biraq is a hero because of his knowledge and wisdom. I have not come across a Harari who has his kind of wisdom, who sees things in a different and very interesting way. his views are his views, he does not try to please the crowd just for the sake of popularity. He is as real as real can be. His mind is very much needed......

By M

Who: Biraq UL Harar
Why: Very simple, Hero = worrier Do we have anybody
who qualify for this other than Biraq at this time?
Didn’t he save Harar from catastrophic
Millennium and reinstated our history?

Who: muhamed Harari

Why: He deserves to be recognized for his efforts and hope for a better Harar. May you succeed.

Who: Sabri Omer (from Atlanta)
Why: I heard about him from friends. This brother worked so hard, with the responsibilitiws  of being a father he managed to save money on his own and build a hospital in Harar, even transported ambulances.  Now, this Brother is a true Hero, a living example of what ONE man can do!
I love you whoever you are! May Allah give you abundance! Bless your kind heart!

Who: Members of the Hanolato, Kulub, etc. etc.

Why: First and foremost, anyone who was blessed with having good parents to raise him or her to be a good and productive citizen and a credit to his race should look up to his parents as heroes and raw models. Aside from this, there were hundreds of Harari individuals who went further beyond a call of shared community duty and did a great service to all Hararis, namely the Hanolato group, the Kulub group, the Ameshna teachers, etc. etc. Some of these people paid dearly with their lives for the common good and should be honored by all. Each and every member of these groups were and still should be considered heroes of the community. Allah bless the souls of all, both the living and those who passed away. And of course, there are others who individually did a great service for their community by helping the poor, teaching the have-nots, etc. And there are also individuals who are contributing more than their share in different Afochas, both at home and abroad, to improve the life of the Harari people. The annual gathering of the Harari people did not happen out of the blue; there were individuals who toiled day and night to make it a success and a thank you should be in order for all those who freely offered their time and energy. Hararis have numerous heroes and heroines, both on individual basis and as a group and I urge everyone to get out-of-the-box mentality and broaden your horizon when jotting down you r opinion. Personally, I do not agree with some of the suggestion I saw on the site because the achievement of some of the individuals do not measure up to the one I mentioned above by a long shot. And I must add the suggestions are just a reflection of a lack of history and tradition of the Harari people on the part of those who made the suggestion. Please try to read and understand our history before you jump in to jot down your suggestion. . I am sad to note this, but our forefathers and foremothers had a lot of good in them than I dare not say about the present generation. And since Khariwer is asking us about the living heroes excluding our parents, I am afraid the list is very short if we exclude those I already mentioned.

Who: the founders of schools for our community

Why: our fathers the living and the dead who dedicated their life, time, and money to built education centers must be remembered and mentioned as heroes collectively. If there are Heroes among us, this generetion, we will be juged and refered as heroes by the following generation

Who:Mohammed Abdurahman Shekh

Why: He is the man of Harar I call him in recent Harar history. Per his time sucrifies including his precious life. He is the one who was on front line when Harar was on Disaster time with Haramram and League... dispute time. He struggled and negotiated with his full knowledge and ability with current gov. (Eprdf) to give us our precious harar to hararis. This is a significant history re-writen by golden paint in every harari. I say he deserve the best medal with all respect in front of all hararis.

Who: Imam Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Ghazi.

Why: to much to say about Imam Ahmed. Read Futuhul-Habash book. book availabel in Harari Language.

Who: Oma Kamaro Ahmed Abong'

Why: Alahu yatrahamlayu. Little fact known about our unsung hero Oma Kamaro Ahmed Abong, after inheriting the private school of Shik Abubakar Madrasa from her father; she donated the school to the Hararries, so all Harar children will be granted free education. Now the school is in desperate need of renovation; unfortunately, her name is never mentioned, and very few people are aware of her lifetime commitment, and contribution to improving the lives of Harari community. When she passed away in the 1960’s the students of Shik Abubaker Madras dedicated a song on her honer: Wa Kafti nta mutba matlaya zo Koram mehra zala yetrasa ale sum zo Ay kamaria Ahmed Abong Alaho Yatrahamlayo I hope we all teach our children about our Harari Heros, so they feel proud of where they came from.

Who: Haji Rasheed

Why: Haji Rasheed is my choice. I am sure those of us who grew up in Harar are very familiar with haji Rasheed's philanthropic services,( providing free traditional medical treatment to his community) and most of all during the water problem in Harar he was the first person who did his best to provide water to the public. May Allah give him more courage and protect him from evil for a burden he bears on his shoulder, the load of his people.
