Time Out

When our genuine dedication and generous contribution to our community is taking us no where, when redundant conflicts and misunderstandings stand on our way of societal progress and when our overall situation is not improving no matter which way we try to change it, we must pause for a moment and think differently. The moment we do so, we begin to understand and see the muddled cloud of bitterness, hatred, and confusion that we are all entrapped in.

Imagine ten people being asked to pass on a ball to each other in two seconds, where each person must get a chance to pass on the ball to the other. Obviously, your reaction for this odd challenge would be “is this a joke or what?” Now, what would you say if you are told it is possible and that others have successfully done it? You would definitely pause first, and then may be start thinking, perhaps this time differently. Eventually, after several failed attempts you will succeed.

No one denies that our societal problems are far more complex than we think. Hence, they are not easily understood unless we start to think outside the box. Hatred, bitterness and all those negative attitudes we have towards each other is an energy that we think can be redirected towards progress.

Thinking differently is to be disengaged from our flawed behavior that time and again has proven to be unworkable. Moreover, it is to start asking ourselves, why things are the way they are but not the way we wish them to be. Most importantly, it is to admit that it has everything to do with each one of us personally. Therefore, let’s begin to examine primarily our deeply-rooted motives behind our actions. You will be amazed to learn how each one of us can individually make a difference in our society.

We at Khairiwer pledged to ourselves to refrain from demeaning or character assassination of our fellow Hararis. We are in a relentless pursuit of, first and foremost, to understand the nature of our societal problems. We are committed, above all, to embrace a Culture of Positive Thinking.

The next time you wonder why we Hararis are bitterly divided when we could be united, Take the Time Out!
